Metronome
Metronome use is an absolute must for effective development.

Expand
Expand and vary your practice material. Keep adding new learning to your sessions. Always feel like you have too much to cope with.

Manage
Manage your available practice time. Be realistic about the time you have available and stick to your program. Write down each day and set out the time you will be able to practice. Remember to include time for theory.

Organise
Be organized in your approach to practice. After you have set out your available time, split your practice to include all your learning material, songs and creative or recording time. Remember to include the daily warm up and technical routines.

Repetitive
Examine weak areas within songs and technical playing. Repetitively practice these phrases and parts in isolation. Slow it down and gain control before building speed.

Include
Always include your music theory. Remember that you will need this knowledge to put your creative talents to maximum use.

Songs
Choose songs which will challenge your playing and improve your range of styles.

Enjoy
Although effective practice is going to be tough, always make sure you leave space for some.
